Mr Ferrer hails from the Philippines and is a founding member of the Singapore Dance Theatre. During his time with SDT, Mr Ferrer taught and choreographed several outstanding pieces for the company’s Children Season, such as The Ugly Duckling (1991), Hansel and Gretel (1993), and The Elfin Mount (1994). Mr Ferrer also took time to train and choreograph for various non-professional groups and elite schools for their anniversary shows and Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Competition. In addition, Mr Ferrer was specially invited to the Nishino Ballet School in Osaka, Japan to be a guest teacher. In 1994, Mr Ferrer attended the Royal Academy of Dancing Professional Dance Teacher’s Course in London, where he graduated with distinction. He made history by being the first recipient of the Jerwood prize for being the most outstanding graduate.
Upon his return, Mr Ferrer joined Singapore Chinese Girls" School as full-time Ballet Master for 6 years. He choreographed and co-directed many of SCGS’s dance productions. Mr Ferrer was also a part-time ballet teacher at Crestar Learning Centre, specializing under the systems of the Royal Academy of Dancing (RAD, UK) and Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing (CSTD, Australia). In addition, he was a Consultant to LaSalle-SIA College of the Arts’s School of Dance, and a part-time ballet teacher in Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts.
In 2001, Mr Ferrer founded Attitude Performing Arts Studio and coupled with his wealth of experience in dance education and choreography, he has been the sole artistic director for Attitude’s annual dance productions (refer to Mr Ferrer’s works below). Under the guidance of Mr Ferrer, Pilates-the-Studio was formed in 2004 to provide support and help especially for dancers who require body conditioning.
Mr Ferrer has also taken much effort and care to groom young talents in Attitude’s Performing Group for the Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing, Asia-Pacific Dance Competition, held in Perth and Singapore from 1998-2007.
Presently, besides teaching ballet, Mr Ferrer has devoted more time to teach Pilates and Gyrotonics, because he firmly believes in the necessity of strength building for dancers. No doubt, Mr Ferrer is actively working towards creating a dynamic professional Dance Company at Attitude Performing Arts Studio.
